The new law (Chapters 798 and 799) requires a provider who receives reimbursement from the State Medicaid Program for providing obstetric services to a patient to complete a Prenatal Risk Assessment form during the initial patient visit and submit the form to the local health department where the mother resides. The law also requires hospitals and freestanding birthing centers, after a newborn is delivered following a high-risk pregnancy, to complete a Postpartum Infant and Maternal Referral form and submit it to the local health department where the mother resides, provide certain resources and information to the mother, and call the mother at least 24, but no later than 48, hours after the discharge to evaluate the mother's status and, as necessary, provide information about postpartum complications. These requirements become effective July 1, 2025.
