Beginning June 27, 2023: All DEA-registered Physicians will be required to check a box on their online DEA registration form (regardless of whether a registrant is completing their initial registration application or renewing their registration) affirming that they have completed a new eight-hour training requirement to meet conditions of the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act. This is a one-time training requirement on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. Registrants will not be asked again to affirm their training.
Any organization accredited by the Accreditation Counsel for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) or the Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition (CCERP) can provide this training. Medical Mutual/Professionals Advocate is ACCME accredited and currently offers Opioid Prescribing: Avoid the Pain 3.0, which fulfills 2 hours towards this requirement.
